NAMI Black Hawk County NAMI Black Hawk County is sponsoring a free 12-week class for families who have relatives with mental illness. The series of weekly classes, taught by trained family members, begins on Thursday, April 8, and runs through June 24. It will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 608 West 4th Street, in Waterloo.
The class covers different mental illnesses and the most effective treatments to promote recovery. In addition, it will help family members with problem solving, communication techniques, and strategies for handling crises and relapse. Finally, it offers self-care: how to cope with worry, stress, and emotional overload. Participants must register in advance by contacting the NAMI office at 319-235-5263 or namibh@qwestoffice.net
