Two Cedar Falls Teens Accused of Mailbox Bombs

Cedar Falls Police have charged a pair of Cedar Falls teenagers with reckless use of explosives after they allegedly planted homemade bombs in mailboxes. 15-year olds Michael Truelson and Casey Schwickerath, were arrested Friday. Charges were filed after officers investigated a report of a fire in a mailbox late Wednesday. Officers discovered more damaged mailboxes in the same neighborhood. The incident occurred after federal officials were warning Iowans to use extra caution when opening their mailboxes after reports of 20 similar blasts across the state. Four bombs made from soda bottles were found in Des Moines earlier this month, five youths were also recently cited in connection with incidents in Clay County. Officials say they don’t believe all the incidents were related.
